I Am Anxiety

Hosted by author David McLaughlin, the I Am Anxiety Podcast aims to help you keep your head above water. It delivers lessons and learnings on recovery from anxiety illness - taken from the book I Am Anxiety - which are designed to help you break the anxiety cycle. The cycle that keeps so many people stuck in a never ending loop of worry and fear. The book - a finalist in the Readers Favourite 2019 Book Awards - provides a step-by-step guide to anxiety recovery. At the age of 33, following a period of significant stress at home and in work, David developed Generalised Anxiety Disorder. He remained in the grips of anxiety for a number of years which led to unemployment, despair, hopelessness - and a trip to the emergency ward. Determined to find the joy in life again, David spent time learning about his condition and how it affects the mind and body. By acquiring this knowledge, and using it to break the anxiety cycle, he was able to fully recover. The I Am Anxiety Podcast takes the key messages from his book and turns each into an entertaining and engaging conversation - delivered in an easy to follow, authentic style. David also shares information on anxiety recovery on his website www.iamanxiety.net

In episode 2, David discusses the three parts of the brain involved in the development of anxiety illness.  He outlines how changes to these parts of the brain - initiated by the stress hormone cortisol - can slowly lead us into the never ending cycle of worry and fear that ultimately leads to anxiety illness.
This knowledge is important because once we understand why we have become trapped  -physiologically speaking - we can then begin to understand how we free ourselves.
